Food Safety for Your Farm Business A Women's Agricultural Network Workshop
March 11, 1999 - 5:30-8:30 pm
BURLINGTON VT - If your business includes spacialty food or value-added products, this workshop is for you! It is an intruduction to understanding the importance of safe food handling pratices in food production. Participants will learn about food-borne illnesses; "potentially ahzardous food"; the role of bacteria in food spoilage and food poisoning; and HACCP, an international food safety framework developed to prevent hazards that could cause food-borne illnesses. Instructors include Karen Schneider and Dale Steen, UVM Extension Food Safety Specialists. For information about registration call 802-656-3276.

Beginning Sheep Enterprise
A Women's Agricultural Network Workshop March 27, 1999 - 10 am - 3 pm
BURLINGTON - This workshop is for the beginning or fter sheep farmer. Participants will learn how to asses their resources and match their sheep operation with resources available. We match their sheep operation with resources available. We will review income and expenses to be expected with such an enterprise as well as basic animal husbandry including sheep breeds, shelter, feeding, lambing and health. A hands-on session will allow participants to practice handling sheep, trimming feet, and review of general care. Lambs will be available for instruction of young animal health care including tagging, docing tails, and administering vaccinations. The instructor will be Chet Parsons, UVM Extension Non-Dairy Livestock Specialist. For information about registration call 802-656-3276.
Introduction to Chainsaw Use A Women's Agricultural Network Workshop
March 20, 1999 - 10 am - 2 pm
BURLINGTON - This workshop will give particpants an opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with chainsaws and learn practical felling skills. Participants will review chainsaw and felling safety guidelines, gain hands-on training of chainsaw operation, and learn basic maintenance and care of chainsaws. Participants should plan on spending time outside - please wear proper attire and hard-soled boots. The workshop instructor is Dave Antone, former Essex Technical Center instructor wit hconsiderable experience in technical trades education. For information about registration call 802-656-3276.
